Katrina Frazer Collection

I learned a lot from my Mum who was a Secondary art teacher. She taught me to see, to love, respect and need nature. She taught me to strive for excellence in all I did, to think deeply and to really connect with people. I have been making things my whole life and as a child I was taken to view countless galleries and artist’s studios which fed my desire to live a creative life. I was allowed to paint magical kingdom murals on my bedroom walls and dig up mud from my Grandparent’s dam to make figures with it. I love that this is my first memory of using clay - the way it should be used - direct from the source with fossilised bits of reeds and rocks!

My art education honed my eye for detail, observation, skill and technique. At Melbourne University I had esteemed artists as tutors and learned how to use a broad range of mediums. I always wanted to be an art teacher and practicing artist, living on a hill by the ocean. Maintaining my own practice has been vital to me, whilst teaching in schools for over 30 years and raising two awesome daughters.

My goal has been to achieve balance - to teach and to create. Whether my pieces are ceramic, painting or drawing, my style is organic and flowing, soothing and colourful - exploring all things botanical, landscape and abstract.
