During 2021, I was invited to create a ceramic wall mural installation celebrating the Australian Indigenous story of the creator, Bunjil the Eagle. The mural was installed to lead students into the campus from the Gladstone Street entry.

Prep to Year 4 students made all ceramic components which I installed according to my design concept. Installation was assisted by a past student (with gratitude). The installation drew on the following themes:

  • Celebrate and visually represent the creator, Bunjil, the wedge tailed eagle.

  • Draw a parallel with the birth, growth, and flight of Bunjil and that of the lives and learning of all who enter the school.

  • Create a physical sense of embrace for students to enter school that has meaning.

  • See the purpose of life’s journey reflected in Bunjil’s life.

The inner facing entrance represents a nest (on either side walls) filled with seeds which become eggs then feathers, growing as the eagle grows and as the students grow.

This mural has an embracing, flowing movement which welcomes the school community into their educational learning journey as well as a life / growth journey.
