About Me

Katrina Frazer
Educator and Artist

I have a Bachelor of Education in Visual Arts from Melbourne University, and have been an art educator for more than 30 years in leading Melbourne Independent K - 12 Colleges.

I have been running my own business now for nearly a decade, delivering a diverse range of art education classes, bespoke workshops for adults in my studio and in professional business settings and delivering large artist in residency projects. I am also committed to my own studio artwork practice which provides balance for myself. View my collection here.

My teaching experience includes teaching at primary and secondary school, years Prep – 12 (including Studio Arts and Art, both theoretical and practical components) and many years teaching at Beaumaris Community Art Group, children’s, teenagers and adults school and holiday art classes. I teach students to awaken their imagination, embrace the whole visual story and “turn a scar into a star”.

I have written curriculum for Victorian primary schools with the University of Melbourne, The Dax Centre – Emotional Literacy through the Visual Arts (ELVA) program. I embed these units and use this approach within all classes.

After completing an Intuitive Painting course with artist Flora Bowley, I use this process and approach to painting. As Flora states: “this inspiring process encourages both novice and professional painters to “let go, be bold and unfold” as they move through fear and welcome joyful spontaneous expression back into the creative process”.

Having spent 14 years teaching secondary years 7 – 12 and another 16 years teaching primary years prep – year 5 as a PYP IB teacher, this broad teaching experience enables me to provide increased flexibility to teach any age with ease and understand an individual’s artistic developmental journey.

I am passionate about the importance of art education in the development of the ‘whole’ person at whatever age.  To feel the ‘flow’, lose all sense of time, reflect, experiment and study other artists’ styles and movements, are all paramount to ultimately learning about who we are through the personal experience of creating art.

My purpose is to provide bespoke art education experiences that are creative, through caring and connecting with my student community. My aim is for participants to feel heard, seen and to guide the development of their artwork through building confidence. I support my students to feel, to challenge and reflect on themselves and the world around them within a calming environment.
